As a fairly new Association we are very proud of the manner in which we have built up ourselves from that initial season back in 2001. Back then we barely had enough umpires to cover all of the games played in our First Grade Competition. We are now in the position where we have around 80 members on our books, and find ourselves being able to consistently subscribe umpires into all first, second and third grade matches. This is a great achievement, but the job is not yet done. We still need to increase our membership by a minimum of 15-20 active umpires to be able to supply all matches in all four grades with neutral match officials. So our quest continues!
Members in our special anniversary season will receive the benefit of a free Association polo shirt, a free cap, a free personalised note book with an individual's name and membership number on it, a 50% subsidy on the purchase of field shirts and an invitation to a free anniversary dinner on a date to be determined in early 2011.
As part of this anniversary season we will also be promoting for the competition an SSCUA "Anniversary Round" of cricket which will be held on Saturday 5 February, 2011 during Shires Round 10. On this day we are asking every member to be available to umpire. If this happens we are confident that every match in the Shires competition all the way down to Fourth Grade will receive umpires.
We want to take this opportunity to thank all existing and past members for your contribution for where we are today. We also want to offer a warm invitation to anybody else who might like to join our Association in this special anniversary season. Come and umpire with us and enjoy some fantastic cricket watching from the best seat in the house!
The Sydney Shires Cricket Umpires Association was formed prior to the start of the 2001/02 cricket season for the purpose of supplying neutral match officials to the Sydney Shires Cricket competition.
Our cricket is played exclusively on turf wickets by 14 different clubs throughout the Sydney metropolitan area, from late September to the first week of April each summer season.
We welcome enquiries from new members and are happy to guide you through a training course and examination if you have never passed an accredited umpires examination and are thinking about taking up umpiring.
For persons interested in becoming an accredited umpire, the next NSW Cricket Umpires training course and examination in the city will be held in November 2010. Please send us an email via the "Contact Us" link on the main menu if you would like further information.
We also warmly welcome any accredited cricket umpires who might want to participate in our competition and will be more than happy to appoint you only to areas of Sydney that you are happy to officiate in.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our website. If you have any feedback or questions, or wish to join our Association, please click on the "Contact Us" link on the main menu and send us an email.
